Blue Ocean Marine Tech Systems positions for growth

One of Australia’s leading innovators and operators of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles is rebranding as it continues to grow and reach out to potential global partners.

Blue Ocean Marine Tech Systems will next week showcase its leading-edge technology and capability at Indo-Pacific in Sydney following multiple deployments in the past twelve months on behalf of the British and Australian navies.

Former Naval Commodore and Group Managing Director Mike Deeks said the decision to combine Blue Ocean Monitoring and its wholly-owned subsidiaries, Marine Tech Systems in Australia and Marine Tech Systems in the UK, follows an extraordinary period of growth leading to new opportunity.

“Blue Ocean Marine Tech Systems will be a leading owner-operator-innovator in the maritime data collection sector using AUVs,” Mr Deeks said.

“By bringing our technology and services under one banner we can offer seamless services to energy, research and defence customers alike – and position our company for even faster growth.”
The rebranding comes as the Australian Government announces a more ambitious growth path for AUVs with autonomous systems one of the priorities under the Defence sovereign industrial capability program, announced in August 2021.

“We see defence applications of our technology as a significant part of our future growth,” Mr Deeks said.”

“Since 2017 we have had strong engagements with the Royal Navy and the Royal Australian Navy. In the past year we have completed multi-glider, multi-week deployments to gather hydrographic and oceanographic data to meet naval requirements,” Mr Deeks said.

“As part of the Defence West stand, we are taking a big team to Indo-Pacific 2022 to showcase our technology and capability, as well as build relationships with potential customers and partners.”

“Our defence customers have highlighted we have a unique and local technology and capability that is very attractive to them. Our next step is to find good partners and take it to the next stage globally,” Mike Deeks said.

More information about Blue Ocean Marine Tech Systems is available on its newly-launched website at www.blueoceanmts.com.

Chairman Chris Rowe, Director Simon Illingworth and Chief Technology Officer Ben Hollings co-founded Blue Ocean Monitoring in Perth Western Australian in 2014 in response to the growing need of offshore industries for cost-effective and timely marine data.

The company proved its ability and potential to deliver new ways of deploying its AUV-based technology and data by establishing two key joint ventures – Blue Ocean Seismic Services with Woodside Energy and bp ventures in 2019, and Blue Ocean Marine Services with Vertech Group in 2020.

“We will use our track-record in AUV-technology development and deployment to engage and partner with companies to deliver superior and more cost effective AUV solutions and services globally,” Mr Deeks said.
